Jim Niland has been involved with the placement of large commercial risk transfer programs, including group and single parent captive programs, risk retention groups for over 20 years. 

Jim has been involved in the investigation and startup of multiple single parent captives and risk retention groups. While managing a single parent captive for the second largest heating oil distributor in the New York City area, Jim worked for this company as their outsourced Risk Manager providing all functions of captive including selection of the fronting and reinsurance carriers, domicile captive manager, actuary, selection, and management of the TPA and defense counsels. 

Jim’s has worked with various businesses to explore and develop alternative risk transfer solutions for workers compensation, general and professional liability coverage. The alternatives to provide coverage included; single parent captives, group captives and risk retention groups to mention a few. While developing these programs he has built a network of reinsurance carriers, captive management firms, actuaries and claims management firms. 

Jim also brings his risk management knowledge and skills to his clients as an active participant in their claims management and loss control/safety team. This includes actively participating in the management of Workers Compensation, Auto Liability and General Liability and professional liability claims. Loss control / safety and aggressive claims management programs have reduced the costs of risk transfer for the respective entities.
